Are you thinking about online classes for your student? Veritas offers lots of options! Online courses are great for parents who want to share the load of homeschooling. They can also teach your student to be a more independent learner and be able to manage their own schedule. Because Veritas Scholars Academy is entirely online, we have the ability to choose the best teachers from around the world. There are many benefits to our online classes but deciding which ones and how many to take are entirely up to you.
Why do you want your student to take online classes?
Is it because you need help teaching more specialized courses? Or maybe you need to take a load off of your plate so you can teach your younger children? Online classes can definitely help with that! But if you want your student’s courses to be easier, less work, and less time, then online classes may not be for you. While the class meets only twice a week, there is homework outside of class and required reading. Here are some things to consider before you register.
How’s your internet connection?
You don’t need to be tech-savvy to take online classes with Veritas, but you should have access to reliable internet. Nowadays, there’s wifi everywhere, but some homeschool families live in remote areas where the internet is spotty. If your student has difficulty staying connected for an hour and a half straight, you might want to consider self-paced, and You Teach options instead.
Does it fit your schedule?
Veritas classes are flexible. We offer the same subject during different time slots because we know our students are in different time zones. Make sure the classes you want are offered at a time that suits your family’s schedule. Sometimes students with serious athletic or music schedules prefer to take their academic classes in the evening. Others prefer early morning classes for the rest of the day for work or play.
Does it fit your budget?
A full courseload is still significantly less expensive than attending some of the best private schools, but we understand that not everyone can afford it. Figure out how many classes you can comfortably afford, factoring in the cost of books, headset with microphone, and a personal computer if you don’t have one already. These upfront costs often sneak up on parents at the last minute, so know what materials you need for each class early on. You also may want to consider our payment plan option, which you can learn more about here.
How much time do you have?
You might think that since the class meets only twice a week for an hour and a half, that is the only time commitment your student needs for the subject. Actually, you’ll want to add to that about the same amount of time outside of class for homework and required reading. This is no more work than a brick-and-mortar class, but you should set expectations with your child as you decide how many courses you have time for.
You'll see the benefit even if your student only takes one live online class this year. Whether your goal is to have your student educated by the best, interact with other students, or simply lessen your load, Veritas online classes are here for you!
