In my initial educator arrogance, I firmly believed all teaching of my children needed to actively come from me, but slowly and providentially the Lord showed me how using some of the wonderful self-paced and live classes from Veritas was a better way to homeschool for our family.

This is a superior online school with a very gracious and joyous administration and teaching staff. It was a supreme blessing for my son to learn with them. I chose to enroll my children in the Diploma Program because I wanted to give them a classical Christian education of highest quality and at the same time, ensure that they would be fully prepared for college.

Over the years I've become increasingly impressed with the kind of students that VPSA is forming. I lead a highly selective great books honors college. We expect a lot from our students academically and we send them on to the most competitive graduate programs and companies. To their credit the students we've admitted out of VPSA are among the most prepared for real academic rigor. They have the self-confidence that comes from being challenged in school and measuring up, and they desire to go on do great things with their lives. Any college would benefit from such a student and at the Templeton Honors College we actively pursue VPSA graduates.

This program is possibly the best thing that ever happened to our homeschool. History was something that never stuck for me--dates, people, events...I enjoyed learning about them but couldn't retain the information. So teaching my own kids was intimidating. On top of that, they LOVE history. And, having 3 kids at different levels makes it hard to do a lot of one on one teaching. Enter Veritas Press Self Paced History. All 3 of my kids, with 3 very different learning styles, not only learned, retained, and could apply what they learned, but they loved these courses (we have done them all). I sometimes would make history the treat of the day, because they would work hard to be able to get to do history. My son, who is 11, loved these so much he finished a whole year in only 6 months, and begged to repeat his favorite one--New Testament, Greece and Rome. I cannot express how delightful, fun, and enriching these courses are.

We have been enrolled in live online classes for awhile now. I cannot say a single bad thing about the program. All of these teachers are experienced and communicate well with both parents and students. As COVID came about and everyone was flustered about local schools and shutdowns, our classes continued on as normal.

We had a major win in our home yesterday and our oldest (3rd grader, first year with VSA) told my husband he likes his Latin the best and only dislikes math and linguistics. He proudly recited his Latin vocab and definitions and sang every other song and chant he learned (we are also in Memory Period this year). This first year mom right here needed that boost! I cannot understate how VSA has really filled gaps we have wanted to fill since we started homeschooling. I even pulled out the catalog and started considering and choosing which online classes we would do next year.

Our daughter has been caught saying, "I love Latin. I finally get it; it's clicking!!" The fact that she's listed it as a favorite subject on her profile is proof. We attempted pre-Latin programs at home, and this is proof positive that a real teacher is the way to go! She will be continuing Latin studies with Veritas next year.
