Teresa Kao
Teresa Kao is the wife of American Bible Society attorney Stephen Kao and the mother of three gorgeous, God-honoring and adventurous teens, Caleb, Bethany, and Micah. After graduating from high school with honors and as the Junior Miss for her hometown, she graduated with honors from Wake Forest University with a degree in Education and English and with a heart captivated by Christ. Before graduating, she spent a semester abroad in London studying British music, art and theatre with professors from Oxford University and the University of London and completing a workshop with the Royal Shakespeare Company. The delight of her life has been seeing the fruit of homeschooling in the lives of her three children, two of whom earned honors scholarships from their respective colleges in Colorado and South Carolina after using the Veritas curriculum for 15 years. The highlight of her homeschooling has been taking her own children to London to see Shakespeare productions in the Globe Theatre and on the Strand and experiencing all the accoutrements of British high tea atop a double-decker bus! Teresa has developed her own literature and writing courses, including a year-long intensive study of Shakespeare’s plays. She has 35 years of teaching experience with students ranging from third through eleventh grades in various settings including public and private Christian schools in North Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Before moving to Lancaster, PA (where she enjoys kayaking and rope-swinging in the Conestoga River), she founded River Oaks Academy, a homeschool literature, writing and Shakespeare cooperative in Philadelphia. Most recently she has taught literature, writing, grammar, American history and Bible at Veritas Academy, a brick-and-mortar classical school in Lancaster, PA. Her hobbies are reading, coffee, summertime outdoor Shakespeare productions and classical music concerts, world travel, American history, and relishing the exciting antics in the lives of her three teens. She and her husband compete to see who will read the biographies of every American president first! Her bucket list includes visiting every Presidential library and touring Normandy and the chateaus of France with her family.
