Tammy Howland graduated from Indiana University with her degree in secondary math education in 1992. For 11 years she was a high school classroom teacher where she taught nearly every mathematical subject from algebra to calculus. When her first child was born, she stepped into the role of full-time mom and taught math classes at Cedarville University. It was through homeschooling her children that Tammy learned about classical education and became captivated by the windows of life that are opened through learning. Over the years she has enjoyed working with young people through coaching cross country, leading youth mission trips overseas, and tutoring individuals and groups with Classical Conversations. Tammy grew up in a Christian home that nurtured her faith and fostered in her a desire to invest in young people through education. One of the primary themes of Tammy’s walk with God has been an ever-deepening trust in Him as she learns to surrender her own plans and to rest in knowing that His plans are perfect. Tammy lives in Mason City, Iowa with her husband, her two sons Caleb and Samuel, and their not-completely-stable but dearly loved dog, a Vizsla named Hazel. Tammy’s husband, Brent, is Vice President of International Messengers, a mission organization based in Clear Lake, Iowa. Through International Messengers, Tammy has had the opportunity to participate in multiple evangelistic English camps with her family in Eastern Europe. Tammy enjoys running, gardening, taxiing her boys’ friends around town, gourmet chocolate, and early morning coffee with a good friend in a tidy room. She would choose tutoring a student who needs help with a math problem over making dinner any evening of the week.
