Melissa Teply earned a B.S. in Secondary Education Biology from Crichton College in Memphis, TN in 1999. During her time in the Science department, she worked as a lab assistant and taught all the homeschool co-op classes. She started her teaching career at Germantown High School and then she and her husband moved to Middle Tennessee where she taught at Smyrna High School. In the six years spent between the two schools, she taught AP Biology, Biology and Physical Science. During her time in the public school system, she wrote and edited the lab manual used in the Biology department, was on the book adoption committee for her school, ran the Science Olympiad team and was team leader for the Biology department. Her love for Science and all of God’s creation started at a young age and has remained her passion throughout her life. She has been at VSA since 2014. Melissa and her husband, Matt, have been married since 1998 and have three beautiful children. Over the past twenty years, she has also taught Sunday School, Awana, and coordinated the nursery area of her church. For two years, she ran the Imagination Library chapter for her county. Her hobbies include photography, reading, exercise, good food, and exploring new towns.
