Jennifer is thankful for the blessing of growing up under Christian parents. She studied Music Education at Covenant College and married her college sweetheart, Scott just before graduating. Both she and Scott have worked in education and the church for over twenty-five years! Her work has taken various shapes as they pursued graduate degrees and moved to various teaching positions - largely focusing on Scott's work as a music professor and church musician. Jennifer was first introduced to classical education from a Christian worldview sixteen years ago when she and Scott were asked to help establish a school based on these convictions. Jennifer taught kindergarten at that school. When she and Scott moved to Canada, they eventually decided to homeschool their children and continued using the curriculum from their previous school. They eventually started utilizing the Self Paced History curriculum, later adding Omnibus. Two years ago, they started using the Live Instruction classes. They have greatly benefitted from Veritas Press.
Jennifer is now a Service Representative with Veritas! She has earned the opportunity to work in a position that allows her to combine her customer service work experience - and her educational skills. Jennifer's official degree is a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. She has at times utilized this degree in the classroom or in arts administration - and for sure as a homeschooling mama! The bulk of her work experience, though, has been to utilize her educational training in non-educational environments. For most of the companies in which she's worked (from food service to retail to a doctor's office), she's eventually found herself training the new employees. This is an outworking of her degree that she did not foresee. Other achievements that do not bring with them an official degree (but you feel they should) include raising the Finch kiddos four, moving TEN times, wonderful work on a memory care ward, caring for an elderly parent, completely over-hauling an eating lifestyle, as well as learning QuickBooks and bookkeeping for 11 clients.
Jennifer's family seems to be growing as the kids grow older. Now friends and "adopted" kids are frequently around the table - and sometimes sleeping in unexpected places! Popa Finch has also moved into the basement apartment so Jennifer and Scott are better able to care for him. They also enjoy hosting as many church families as they can for meals. When she can, Jennifer also loves to read, and she dreams about being able to craft or sew regularly sometime in the future.
