Heather Rooks

Heather Rooks has been teaching for over 20 years, most often with a cup of coffee in one hand and the Bible in the other, as good work is best begun.

She began her career in the public school system before becoming a mom and following the Lord’s calling to homeschool her children, a path she has walked for the past sixteen years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and history from Lindsey Wilson College, a master’s degree in special education from Campbellsville University, and a master’s degree in elementary education from the University of the Cumberlands. In years past, she also worked for Pearson, reading and scoring student essays on the SAT and other state tests, an occupation that taught her, among other things, that clear thinking and careful words are no small treasure.

When she is not teaching, she may be found reading, playing board games, or gathering old books—more than she has room for, though she maintains that there is always space for one more. Her favorite book, Heidi, holds one of her favorite quotes:

“But God has arranged it all so much better than I knew how to: everything has happened just as the other grandmother said it would. Oh, how glad I am that God did not let me have at once all I prayed and wept for!”

A reminder, if ever one is needed, that the Lord’s plans are wiser—and kinder—than our own.

Heather counts it a privilege to walk alongside students in their learning, helping them grow in diligence, understanding, and confidence while ever pointing them toward truth, beauty, and the love of Christ.

She is the wife of Mark and the mother of Noah, Cade, Mac, Rory, Abby, Jett, Hannah, and Heidi—and her home, much like her classroom, is full, lively, and always fun.

And as she often reminds her students, “there is always more to learn.” — Bilbo Baggins"
