Elizabeth Nelson

Elizabeth Nelson

Elizabeth Nelson has her M.A. in Secondary Science Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College and a B.S. in English from Bates College. Her decades of experience as an educator includes NYC public schools, private Christian schools, and homeschooling. Her career path as an educator took her overseas as a Peace Corps Volunteer to the Republic of the Marshall Islands. After four years of teaching, writing science curriculum, and partnering with educators in the development of math and science standards for the Pacific region, she moved to New York City. She worked toward her M.A. in Science Education while teaching at the Brooklyn International High School. Her greatest experience in NYC, however, was attending Times Square Church. With a renewed dedication in her walk with the Lord, she served on missions teams to Russia, the Bowery Mission, and worked with fellow educators, conducting trainings that helped teachers bring Christ into science education. From NYC, she moved to Connecticut where the Christian Heritage School hired her as a Physics, Chemistry, and Algebra instructor. She also served as Science Department Chair and Science Fair coordinator. After meeting her husband Keith and leaving Christian Heritage School to start a family, homeschooling her four daughters was her next educational adventure. Elizabeth is so thankful to be part of VSA. With Christ’s strength and wisdom, joy, creativity, and humor, she endeavors to bring out the best in her students by encouraging their exploration, explanations, ideas, and confidence.
