Erlend D. MacGillivray received his PhD from the University of Aberdeen, in New Testament and Graeco-Roman history. He was an Academic Tutor at the University of Aberdeen and helped initiate its online teaching program in early Christian history. He also held a position as a visiting professor of New Testament Studies at Asian Theological Seminary. His academic work has appeared in the Journal of Greco-Roman Christianity and Judaism, Novum Testamentum, Ancient History, Ancient World and Aperion: A Journal for Ancient Philosophy and Science. His first book, "Epictetus and Laypeople: A Stoic Stance Towards Non-Stoics" was published by Rowman & Littlefield in 2020. Aside from history he maintains an interest in logic. He co-authored a workbook on inductive logic in 2022, edited a book on Victorian-era Scotland in 2024, and edited a new edition of Herodotus in 2025.
