Recipe: Pizza Toast

INGREDIENTS

1 lb. ground beef

20 oz. favorite red pasta sauce

1 t. Italian seasoning

plenty of grated cheese for topping

bread for toasting

butter

OTHER INGREDIENT OPTIONS

small (or chopped) pepperonis or favorite salami

diced onion

diced zucchini

chopped spinach

minced garlic

other herbs/seasonings

anything else you might want on a pizza!

INSTRUCTIONS

In a large skillet, brown the burger on Medium heat. After a few minutes (letting meat juices coat the skillet first), add any extra ingredients that need to be cooked. (i.e., zucchini)

When burger is browned and vegetables softened, add the pasta sauce and seasoning(s) to skillet, lowering temperature to Medium Low (to avoid splatters).

When meat sauce is up to desired temperature and thickness, pop some pieces of bread into the toaster. Our favorite is sourdough.

Add to plate in this order:

1. toast, buttered

2. sauce

3. other desired ingredients

4. grated cheese

For younger children, cut into bites after buttering the toast, then top as desired.
