Taking online classes may seem like an isolating environment, but at Veritas, there’s ample opportunity to connect.
Between the conversations during live classes, open group chats, and clubs, students make lasting friendships- if they choose to. Yes, it requires a little more effort than just sitting down at a table at lunch, but Veritas students make it happen every day.
Listen to these VSA students tell of their experience with friendships at Veritas!

I noticed that you guys are all like hanging out together here before this week. When was the last time you guys saw each other in person?
Margaret Esterly
We never saw each other before. This is our first time meeting.
Interviewer
So did you guys hang out together online?
Margaret Esterly
Yeah. So some of us have classes together, and some of us just follow each other on social media. Some of us have seen each other at End of Year Gatherings like five years ago before COVID. So some of them are old reunions, and some of them are just meeting new people from classes and just in your grade that you haven’t met before.

When you started online school. Did you expect to have the kind of friendships that you have, even though they're long-distance?
Kris Villa
Well, I'm not so sure. I came from a homeschooler at home, so I kind of just made, I guess you could say, “upgrade” from homeschooler to online school. I mean, it's like is still kind of homeschooling, but just a different mode of it. And I did not expect to make this many friends and make as many bonds with people. And if I had to say my biggest takeaway from Veritas thoughts in terms of like the social aspect of things, it was just the– I was completely blown out of the water about how many people I’ve grown close to over the years. And yeah, I've just been really blessed by that, I guess. It's been amazing getting as many people, especially in my class!
