November 13th, has been designated as World Kindness Day and a worldwide effort to show acts of kindness is underway. If you take a few moments to search the hashtag, "#WorldKindnessDay" on just about any social media platform you'll find posts, tweets, comments, photos, videos and more of people's efforts to participate in this event.
At Veritas Press, our team of staff and faculty make a concerted effort to show kindness to one another, the families we serve, and the greater community around us. One instance of this team wide effort took place last week, on November 8th. Members of our executive team became aware of a need for assistance in the local community, of a family that was simultaneously suffering with both a child's and parent's illnesses.
The Veritas team offered to help in any way that we could and we learned that we could best serve this local family by helping out with raking leaves, trimming back plants, cleaning out gutters and similar outdoor tasks. When we heard about the need, our team didn't hesitate to help! A group of 14 people from Veritas showed up to help clean up and we had fun doing it too! We not only had a chance to show kindness to a neighbor with a need, but to one another as well, as we worked together outside of our typical office environment!
Showing kindness doesn't need to be limited to one day of the year, it can be shown any time and anywhere and to anyone. Kindness starts within you. We'd encourage you to find a way to help someone out as you'll both benefit from it. As Proverbs 3:3 says, "Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart."
A little bit of kindness goes a long way.
