January 17, 2014 – Washington
Our meeting tonight was actually in Arlington which I believe is suburban DC. I may need to be corrected.
To see a mother come walking in with a baby and her four oldest children, having left her four younger children at home with a baby sitter, is a testimony to the dedication of our families. To then interact with her, her children and all the other children there was further confirmation of God’s goodness. To be part of helping parents raise a godly generation that can lead and serve as they have been called makes our work incredibly fulfilling.
Also, a pleasant surprise was the unexpected appearance of Linda Braman, one of our teachers. She was here from Michigan visiting her daughter and grandchildren. This was the first “teacher appearance” of our trip. We expect we’ll see more of them.
Meagan Randolph, a 16 year old young lady had specifically asked me about my favorite dessert and prepared one accordingly. Again, my diet is being attacked in ways that aren’t easily offset.
Two families working together set a new record (for the second straight night) in the time it took to complete the puzzle. They took only 27:50 to finish. Their organization and teamwork was a sight to watch. It is hard for me to believe that anyone will eclipse that time.
Maybe the highlight of the night was when Colby Reynolds explained the Omnibus. One of the attendees with young children asked for an explanation of the Omnibus curriculum and the self-paced course presentations of it. We invited Colby, an Omnibus V student to answer. His poise and thorough explanation made me wonder if he was available to serve in a customer service position this summer. Way to go Colby!
Off to Raleigh next.
