Courtney Ayer

Courtney Ayer taught in Florida public schools for six years before coming to VSA. She was raised in a Christian homeschooling environment using Veritas Press curriculum. Education has always been Courtney’s passion. As the oldest of four children, Courtney got her first taste of teaching by helping her mother instruct her younger siblings. She fell in love with teaching even then, knowing that was where God was calling her. Courtney loves helping students express themselves through writing and learn about the world through literature. She also loves challenging students to find the attributes of God in the content they are exploring. She believes evidence of God can be found in all areas of education. She realized how critical her classical education was when she was in college. She believes she found higher education less challenging because of her classical education background. Courtney graduated Flagler College with an Elementary Education degree. She also received her Reading, ESOL, and Gifted endorsements. Courtney is excited to teach at VSA to help other homeschooled students receive the same rigorous education.

In her spare time, Courtney enjoys reading classic literature. Her favorite authors are C.S. Lewis and Nathaniel Hawthorne. She enjoys spending time with her family in national and state parks, and she loves coffee and crossword puzzles. Courtney has seen firsthand the love and mercy of God in her life and loves to share how surrendering to the lordship of Jesus Christ changed her life. Courtney and her husband Michael have a one year old son named Benjamin. They are head over heels in love with Benjamin and he is a daily reminder of the goodness of God in Courtney’s life. Of course, Benjamin will be a VSA scholar when he is old enough! Courtney’s family lives in Jacksonville, Florida, and her husband Michael works for the Church of Eleven22, where they attend as a family. Courtney and Michael lead a weekly disciple group in their home and Courtney serves on the church’s care team. Courtney is excited to get to partner with parents to encourage VSA students to become all that God has called them to be.
