Summer Hamblin

Summer Hamblin has served in education for over twenty years and has a deep love for teaching and working with students. After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in education from Mississippi State University, she began her career in 2005 as a National Board Certified high school guidance counselor and state certified educator, which she truly enjoyed and believed would be her lifelong calling.

God had other plans, however, and in 2011 Mrs. Hamblin and her husband felt led to transition to homeschooling their three young children. For the past fifteen years, she has not only invested deeply in her own children’s education but has also had the privilege of teaching and mentoring students through Excelsior Classical Christian Community. She has taught a wide range of classical subjects across all grade levels (K–12), including history, literature, grammar, science, and Latin, and she has taught high school composition specifically for eight years. In addition to her in-person teaching, she also brings experience from remote instruction at a classical charter school.

Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Hamblin serves as a Sunday School teacher for 7th-8th grade girls and regularly leads community service and mission outreach projects. Having given her life to Christ at a young age and spending several years of her childhood as a “missionary kid” in Guatemala and Taiwan, she has a lifelong heart for missions and seeks out opportunities to serve both locally and internationally.

Mrs. Hamblin loves to read and collect books, but most of all, she treasures time with her husband, Johnny, their three nearly grown children - Kati, Jack, and Luke - and their yorkiepoo, Max. Together, the family enjoys playing card games and pickleball, going to the gym, hunting, riding four-wheelers, and traveling as a family. With her personal homeschooling journey coming to a close, Mrs. Hamblin is thankful and excited to continue sharing her love of learning in the classical Christian setting of Veritas Scholars Academy.
