Peter Hill
Peter Hill began teaching in graduate school at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and he’s been teaching ever since. His professional life has revolved around the law, the military, and the classroom. His more recent teaching experience has included teaching Business Law and Ethics for Concordia University – Chicago for its MBA program, and for its China program in Shijiazhuang from 2017-2019; National Security Law at the Brandeis School of Law, University of Louisville, from 2012-2024; military history and leadership at the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College from 2004-2010; and courses in American Government subjects at Covenant College from 2019-2023. He also taught a dual-enrollment Covenant College American Government class for homeschool students in 2025.
Mr. Hill had a 30-year civil service career as an attorney for a federal agency in which he practiced in many different areas of the law, and served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney while a prosecutor. He was a Judge Advocate General officer in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from 1983-2010, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was a member of the Pennsylvania and Kentucky Bar Associations, retiring from the practice of law in 2026. He has given Constitution Day and other presentations, written articles, and published Christians and Civil Government: a Biblical, Historical, and Analytical Introduction.
Mr. Hill received his B.A. from Covenant College with majors in history and English; an M.A. from Duquesne University in history; an M.A. from the University of Louisville in political science; and a J.D. in law from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He also attended King’s College, Aberdeen University, Scotland, and graduated from the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College.
He enjoys traveling, hiking, shooting, reading, and playing with grandchildren. An injury resulting from a fall through soft ice into the semi-frozen Lake Michigan regrettably ended his running days.
Mr. Hill became a Christian when a child and professed his faith publicly at 10 years old. He had been read the Scriptures and other books before he began to read for himself. One extrabiblical story made quite an impression. He had been read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and realized how terrible Edmund’s betrayal was. He was angry, frustrated, and helpless to do anything about it. But he then identified with Edmund, and realized that he, too, had betrayed Someone. He confessed his sin and believed that Jesus had died for him.
Mr. Hill’s faith grew tremendously in a Christian high school and then at Covenant College. Since then he has been a deacon in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and a deacon and an elder in the Presbyterian Church in America.
He has been married to the former Cheryl Van Stelle for 49 years and they have three children and five grandchildren together. They recently moved to Michigan to be closer to family.
