Mandy Southern
Mandy Southern was born and raised in Northwest Oklahoma on a family farm where she learned the value of working hard and ideas essential for life. She graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Ministry and a Minor in Music. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education. Mandy is married to Dr. Travis Southern who also teaches at VSA. They have three children who have homeschooled starting in Kindergarten and are currently enrolled at Veritas Scholars Academy. Mandy and her family live in Richland, Washington where Travis is the Senior pastor at Richland Baptist Church and Mandy serves as the Children’s Worship Director. Mandy’s passion in teaching children to discover and do ideas and tasks that will lead them to finding wisdom in God and His creation. She loves guiding children to grow in knowledge of grammar and then exploring how they can better express their ideas in effective writing. Mandy thrives on good coffee during the day and reading great literature. She loves the writings of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series. “Kindred spirits are not as scarce as I used to think. It’s splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world” is an Anne of Green Gables quote that resonates throughout Mandy’s life. She loves to meet new people and discover who they are and how they too can become kindred spirits. Mandy is thrilled to be teaching at VSA and to partner with parents to challenge children to be the very best they can be with a strong biblical worldview.
