Bonnie McAlister has been tutoring and teaching since she was in high school. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, coupled with emphasis in math and English. Bonnie is certified to teach all subjects to students in Kindergarten through 6th grade and math and English to secondary students in 7th through 12th grade.
After graduation, Bonnie taught 6th grade until she got married and started a family. While her children were young, dissatisfied with the local public school system, Bonnie researched homeschool curricula and discovered the classical model of education, with which she deeply resonated. As a result, her children, Emmett and Emerson, have never known a different style of education.
Bonnie classically educated her children at home for several years before enrolling them in a classical Christian school in Oxford, Mississippi, where she also had the privilege of teaching 5th grade. She taught math, writing, grammar, science, and literature for three years. When her husband became ill, Bonnie withdrew her children from school and began homeschooling again. Thankfully, Veritas, which closely mirrored the classical curriculum used at their previous school, was an easy choice for continuing her children's classical education at home while allowing Bonnie to continue pursuing her love of teaching.
Bonnie's favorite subjects are math, grammar, writing, and literature. When she is not helping her children with school or tutoring someone in Algebra, she can be found working in her garden, tending chickens and guineas, snuggling a cat, running with her dogs, or playing games with her family. Bonnie typically has a sermon, audiobook, or podcast playing in her earbuds while cleaning and working around the house, inside and out.
Most of all, Bonnie's favorite time of day is during the first few quiet moments when she is alone, sipping coffee, reading her Bible, and writing in her prayer journal. Bonnie has been a born-again believer since she was a little girl, and her greatest comfort through life's many ups and downs is her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
