Email clear, full-sized photos of your decorated pumpkin and the name and age of the artist to to enter. If you're on social media, we also encourage you to share your creation on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook with the tag #veritaspumpkin2021 (you can also use the #veritaspress tag if you want)! Entries will be accepted through October 28th. On October 29th we will announce the winner and the winner will be sent a free Veritas beanie for the long winter ahead!

The winners and runners-up will have their images featured on the Veritas Press Facebook page and Instagram Story. We will select one winner from each group: Ages 4-8, Ages 9-12, Ages 13-18. Winners will be selected based on Veritas school spirit and artistic skill displayed.

Below are instructions for pumpkin carving to help get you inspired, but feel free to use your own creativity as you select your pumpkin, decorating tools, and techniques.

  • Veritas carving template of choice (see HERE)
  • 1 medium-sized pumpkin
  • Tape
  • X-acto Knife (for getting started)
  • Serrated knife
  • Large serving spoon
  • Newspaper (for easy clean up)

  1. Lay out newspaper on workspace.
  2. Use the serrated knife to cut off the lid of the pumpkin. Use the spoon to scoop out the seeds and pulp. OR try something different, cut a small hole at the base of the pumpkin (big enough for a candle to fit through), let seeds and pulp fall out, then simply place the pumpkin over a candle when ready.
  3. Tape the pattern to the pumpkin face and transfer the design by poking holes through the edges of the pattern with the X-acto Knife.
  4. Remove the pattern.
  5. Using the X-acto and serrated knives, carve out the design.
  6. Put a candle (real or battery-powered) inside the pumpkin and light or turn on.
  7. Take a picture and post it to Instagram or Facebook and use #veritaspumpkin2021.
