Classical Christian Education, From Logan to St. George
Utah families have a long tradition of taking an active role in their children’s education, and many have homeschooled for years. Some come to VSA wanting expert help as the subjects get harder. Others want a full school with real teachers and classmates. Either way, you want an education that forms your child’s mind and faith together.
Veritas Press has helped families teach classically for more than 30 years, and Veritas Scholars Academy brings that education into a live online classroom. Students walk through history in order, beginning with Creation, read the great books, learn Latin, and grow in their ability to think, reason, and speak well. Every class is taught from a Christian worldview, by teachers who know their students by name.
Families choose how much VSA to bring home:
- Full-Time Diploma Program. A full course load with VSA, a personal Academic Advisor, and an accredited diploma and transcript at graduation.
- Part-Time live classes. Many Utah homeschool families keep teaching most subjects and add a few live courses where a seasoned teacher and real classmates make the biggest difference.
Utah Fits All Can Help Fund a VSA Education
The Utah Fits All Scholarship is open to any Utah K-12 student who isn’t enrolled in a public or charter school, with no income requirement. Students attending a private school can receive up to $8,000 a year, and home-based students up to $6,000 (ages 12 to 18) or $4,000 (ages 5 to 11).
VSA is priced by the course, so here’s how a typical year compares.
| Typical yearly cost | |
|---|---|
| Typical Full-Time Grammar year | $2,786 |
| Typical Full-Time Secondary year | $5,828 |
| Utah Fits All, private school | up to $8,000 |
Tuition only; books are separate.
For a typical full-time student, the private school scholarship amount is more than a year of VSA tuition, with room left for books and curriculum. Every family’s plan is different, so build your own child’s plan to see your real number.

What Utah Requires of VSA Families
Paperwork is the part of any school change most parents dread. Utah keeps it light. Children ages 6 to 18 must attend school, and Utah exempts students who attend a regularly established private school and students whose parents file a home school affidavit (Utah Code 53G-6-204).
Families Who Homeschool
One Notarized Affidavit
- File a signed, notarized home school affidavit with your local school district.
- File it once. It stays in effect while your child is homeschooled in that district.
- Your district sends an exemption certificate, then a new one each year by August 1.
- If your child is enrolled in a public school now, give the school a copy so it can withdraw your child.

Confirm Your Path First
Whether a full-time VSA family files an affidavit can depend on how you enroll and whether you use Utah Fits All. Your Family Consultant will walk you through it before you start.
Either way, Utah sets no state testing or curriculum requirements for homeschool families, and your child’s VSA grades and teacher comments show their progress all year.
Leaving a Utah public school? Utah Fits All students can’t be enrolled in a public or charter school, including the Statewide Online Education Program, so talk with a Family Consultant first. Your scholarship, paperwork, and VSA start date should all line up. How switching to VSA works
Wondering how other states treat VSA students? Is My Student Considered a Homeschooler When in the Diploma Program?
A Diploma That Opens Doors
When your child starts thinking about college, the transcript suddenly matters a great deal. Many Utah families choose VSA so their high schooler graduates with a record any admissions office will recognize.
An Accredited Diploma
Full-Time Diploma students graduate with a diploma and official transcript from a school accredited by the Middle States Association since 2014. Honors, AP, and dual enrollment courses appear on the transcript with a weighted GPA.
Ready for College
VSA graduates have gone on to schools such as Harvard, Hillsdale, Wheaton, Grove City, and New Saint Andrews. Your child’s Academic Advisor helps plan a course of study with their college goals in mind.
College Credit and NCAA
Eligible high school students can earn college credit through our dual enrollment partnership with Cairn University. VSA courses are also NCAA-approved (high school code 392122).
What a Week Looks Like for Utah Students
Online school can be hard to picture until you see it. Here’s what a typical week looks like.
Live Classes, Twice a Week
Each live course meets twice a week at a set time, with the same teacher and up to 20 classmates all year. Students raise their hands, answer questions, and discuss ideas together.
Never Behind
Every class is recorded. If a snow day, a ski trip, or a family vacation gets in the way, your child watches the recording and stays on track.
Between classes, much of the work happens with books, paper, and pencil. Younger students sing their way through history and chant their Latin vocabulary. Older students read Homer and Augustine, work through formal logic, and learn to write and defend arguments of their own, the classical stages Dorothy Sayers described in “The Lost Tools of Learning” (1947).

Learning to Think Out Loud, Together
One of the biggest gifts of live classes is other students: classmates who’ve read the same book and want to talk about it. VSA students see the same classmates every week, and friendships grow from there. Clubs, field trips, and our End-of-Year Gathering bring students together outside class, too.
My sweet girl had always been very opinionated and headstrong, and homeschooling her was quite the challenge for me… She has grown more confident in her ability to communicate calmly and discuss and debate issues without getting emotionally involved.

Do I need to file a home school affidavit if my child attends VSA?
