Online School for Military Families

New orders, a new house, maybe a new country. Through every move, your child can keep the same school: the same teachers, the same classmates, and a classical Christian education that picks up right where it left off. Veritas Scholars Academy is an accredited online school with live classes all day and students in more than 50 countries.

You’ve Done This Before

If you’re a military family, you know the rhythm of a PCS season: the orders, the boxes, the goodbyes, and the long list of things to set up on the other end. Somewhere on that list is a new school, again.

For children, school is often the hardest part to start over. Military kids change schools an estimated six to nine times between kindergarten and graduation (Brookings Institution). Each move brings new teachers, new classmates, and new expectations, and sometimes lessons that repeat what a child has already learned or skip what they haven’t.

Some installations have excellent DoDEA schools, with strong programs and a real sense of community, and many families are grateful for them. Many other military children attend civilian public schools near the base. Either way, a school that serves one community stays behind when the orders come.

VSA offers something different: a school that comes with you.

Something that happened at VSA that I didn’t expect was that I’d actually make a lot of friends.

I moved a lot when I was younger because my family was in the military, so I didn’t really make many friends. Five friends was a lot for me. I didn’t think you could make friends online, but I’m actually closer to some of my online friends than I am to the ones in real life.

One School, Every Duty Station

When your address changes, here’s what stays the same.

Same Teachers and Classmates

Live classes meet online, so a move doesn’t end the school year. Your child keeps the same teachers and classmates, from the last week in the old house to the first week in the new one.

No Gaps, No Repeats

Our curriculum moves in order, with history beginning at Creation and building year by year. Your child picks up exactly where they left off, instead of adjusting to a new school’s sequence.

One Transcript, One Advisor

Full-Time students keep one accredited transcript and one Academic Advisor who knows their whole story, however many duty stations it includes.

Start When the Orders Come

VSA welcomes new students throughout the year, so you can enroll before a move, during it, or right after you arrive.

Stationed Overseas? School Comes Too.

An overseas assignment can be one of the great adventures of military life, and it can also leave a family far from the schools and churches they know. VSA students live in more than 50 countries, so your child joins a truly international school, and live classes run all day, so many students find section times that fit their time zone.

  • Recorded classes. Every class is recorded. Students who regularly can’t attend live because of the time difference watch the recording and submit a short report, and those reports count toward their participation grade.
  • Independent Study. For Full-Time students, when no section time works for a required course, an Academic Advisor can request an Independent Study. Part-Time students can take a course archive-only instead, following each class through its recordings.
  • Help with the schedule. A Family Consultant can help you build a class schedule around your time zone before you enroll.

In [the] area of the world where we live, my children have no youth group, no Christian high schools, and very few Christian young people their age.

My children needed live classes taught from an unapologetically Christian worldview.

Friendships That Don’t Reset

Making friends is hard when you know you might move in a year or two. Many military kids learn to hold a little back, because goodbyes come so often. It’s an understandable instinct, and a heavy one for a child to carry.

At VSA, classmates don’t disappear when the moving truck arrives. Students see the same faces in class week after week, and many take classes together for years. Clubs and field trips add time together outside class, and each June, families from around the world meet in person at our End-of-Year Gathering.

In the video, Katelyn, a 2025 VSA graduate, shares her story of VSA and military life.

When a Parent Deploys

Deployment changes everything at home. The parent who stays carries more, and children feel the absence in their own ways. School can be one thing that doesn’t have to change.

VSA teachers lead the live classes, so the parent at home isn’t carrying every subject alone. Assignment sheets show what’s due, grades update as soon as they’re entered, and you can reach any teacher directly. If a hard week is coming, you can request assignment extensions ahead of time. And through it all, your child learns in a Christian school community, with Scripture and a biblical worldview woven into every subject.

Moving to a New State

Because VSA isn’t tied to any one state, your child’s enrollment stays the same when your address changes.

A note on state requirements. Every state sets its own rules for students who learn at home, so a PCS move can mean learning a new set. VSA is an accredited private school, and in some states, families also register as homeschoolers. Your Family Consultant can point you in the right direction each time you move.

Questions From Military Families

Can we enroll mid-year when new orders come?

Yes. VSA accepts students throughout the year, and students can join classes already in progress. Every class is recorded, and teachers help new students plan any makeup work. See how switching schools works.

Does VSA work for families stationed overseas?

Yes. VSA students live in more than 50 countries. Live classes run all day, every class is recorded, and students who regularly can’t attend live because of their time zone can be graded on recording reports instead. A Family Consultant can help you plan a schedule that fits.

Do we need to register as homeschoolers after we move?

It depends on the state. VSA is an accredited private school, and some states also ask families to register as homeschoolers. Your Family Consultant can help you understand what applies after each move.

If we move back to a public or DoDEA school, will VSA credits transfer?

VSA is accredited by the Middle States Association, and Full-Time students receive yearly report cards and, in high school, an official transcript. Each receiving school makes its own credit decisions, and an accredited record gives your child a strong place to start.

Can my child still play sports or join activities at a local school?

Often, yes, though the rules depend on your state and school district. More than 30 states have policies that open school activities to students who learn at home (Military OneSource). It’s worth checking with the school near your new duty station.

How much does VSA cost?

A typical Full-Time year comes to about $2,786 for grades 3-6 and $5,828 for grades 7-12, including the Diploma enrollment fee. Part-time students pay per course. Build a plan on our tuition page.
