A young Egyptian orphan boy named Ranofer wants to be a master goldsmith just like his father. But Ranofer's evil half-brother, Gebu, apprentices him to a stone cutter's shop instead. Ranofer wonders where Gebu goes late in the night, and where he gets his seemingly unearned wealth. When Ranofer finds a golden goblet among Gebu's things, the mystery and adventure begin. The goblet must have been stolen from one of the tombs in the City of the Dead!
This is a great read-aloud for young children studying Egyptian history.
