It’s a wonderful thing to watch your child learn to read! This school year I’ve been teaching my five-year-old son to read. For his sister, my oldest, reading was a breeze. She was reading before I even figured out how to teach her. (Granted, my mother-in-law, Laurie, did all the heavy lifting when it came to homeschooling Ava.) But with my son, Ollie, I’ve really watched a child for whom reading doesn’t come easily, actually start to get it. He may not be reading at his level yet, but to watch his progress over the past year is truly a blessing, one I don’t think I could enjoy without homeschooling.
Our annual Summer Reading Contest is for readers like Ava and Ollie alike–and it’s back! It begins now and continues through September 15, 2022. The first 100 participants receive a gift certificate at the end of the contest and a drawing will be held for three grand prize winners.
We only ask that you as parents or teachers verify what the children have read, and then, after they have met their goals, complete the online entry form. Please encourage them to read good literature, not just look for a book that meets the page count criteria. Click here to download a reading chart if you would like to track your student’s progress.
