12 Days of Christmas: Day 11 Giveaway | Teacher Development Courses

The eleventh day of Christmas . . .

Though today’s the Eleventh Day of Christmas, let’s talk about Twelfth Night. Twelfth Night is the evening of January 5th, the last day of the Christmas season. Nothing says Twelfth Night like the wassailing tradition. The word wassail comes from Middle English, and it means “Be in good health!” Medieval wassailers sang carols for their landowner, offering well-wishes for the new year. In return, the landowner gave the singers food or other gifts. Wassailers then shared spiced wine from their wassail bowl (in hope of more gifts). Wassailing may not be for you. Still, you might consider singing “Here We Come A-Wassailing” today. It’s a Twelfth Night favorite!
